90-Day Preconception Plan: Prepare for a Healthy Pregnancy

90-Day Preconception Plan: Prepare for a Healthy Pregnancy

Nobody told me about the 90 days.

I was told to take folic acid once I got pregnant. I was told to eat well, sleep well, and reduce stress. All good advice — and all delivered too late.

Here is what actually matters: the egg releasing in your next cycle has been developing for 90 days already. The sperm that will meet it has been developing for 74. So what your body goes through right now shapes what conception looks like three months from today.

Which means the plan starts now, not at the positive test.

Why 90 Days, Not Just “Start Trying”

Because most Indian women enter conception already behind on a few basics:

  • Iron-deficient — more than 50% of us.
  • Vitamin D-deficient — 70–90% of urban women.
  • Carrying thyroid issues they don’t know about yet.
  • Heading into three months of incorrect ovulation timing.

A 90-day plan fixes the things that quietly extend how long conception takes. It isn’t a rigid daily protocol designed to make you feel guilty. Instead, it’s three months of small, specific habits, added one at a time, in the right order.

Month 1 — The Foundation (Days 1–30): –

Start with just these four things. Nothing else yet.

1. Start folic acid today, not once you start trying: –

Neural tube closure happens 28 days after conception — usually before you even get a positive test. So folic acid needs to already be in your system before that window opens.

2. Start shatavari in warm milk every night: –

Take ½ teaspoon of Dvija Natural Shatavari with a pinch of black pepper and ghee. A 2025 clinical trial found it improves FSH-LH ratios and ovarian function. Since this is a 90-day investment that takes time to work, this is exactly why you start in month one.

3. Get your blood tested — stop guessing: –

Ask for ferritin, vitamin D, a full thyroid panel (TSH), AMH, and fasting blood sugar. You can’t build a preconception plan without knowing where you’re actually starting from.

4. Make two kitchen changes: –

Replace all sugar with MyDvija’s Natural Jaggery Powder — it adds iron to every cup of chai. And separate chai from meals by 60 minutes, since tannins block up to 70% of iron absorption otherwise.

By the end of month 1, you’ll have folic acid and shatavari running — the two that needed a head start. You’ll have your blood results in hand, so you know what you’re working with. And you’ll have two kitchen habits changed — small on their own, but compounding.

Month 2 — Know Your Body (Days 31–60): –

Most couples try for months without ever timing intercourse correctly. Your fertile window is only 6 days: the 5 days before ovulation, plus the day itself. The egg survives just 12–24 hours — so if you miss this window, that cycle is over, regardless of everything else you’ve done right.

Start tracking this month: –

  • Use Ovulation Predictor Kits (OPKs) from day 10 of your cycle.
  • A positive LH surge means ovulation in 24–36 hours — plan intercourse today and tomorrow.
  • Track for 2 months; by month 3 you’ll know your own pattern, not a generic day-14 estimate.

Add two more daily habits: –

Take 1 teaspoon of Moringa Powder in dal or warm water — it delivers iron, folate, calcium, and vitamin C, which also boosts iron absorption from the same meal. And have Nachani Satva (Sprouted Ragi) for breakfast with ghee and lemon — iron, calcium, fibre, and fat-soluble vitamins in a bowl that cooks in 5 minutes.

For husbands, this month matters too: –

Sperm takes 74 days to develop, so changes made now will show up right at conception. Start now with zinc-rich foods like pumpkin seeds, sesame, and eggs. Reduce alcohol. And skip resting the laptop directly on the lap for extended periods.

By the end of month 2, you’ll know your fertile window instead of guessing at it. Your nutrition gaps will be actively closing, with moringa and ragi now daily habits. And your husband’s sperm quality will have had 30 days to improve.

Month 3 — The Readiness Month (Days 61–90): –

This is when everything comes together. The supplements are working, the ovulation pattern is known, and the nutrition is in place. So the only thing standing between you and the best possible conception environment is something most people underestimate: stress.

Cortisol directly suppresses the hormonal axis that drives ovulation — this isn’t a soft claim, it’s physiology. In fact, studies comparing women in IVF cycles found that those with the highest cortisol had significantly lower pregnancy rates, even with identical protocols.

What to add in month 3: –

  • 5 minutes of anulom-vilom pranayama every morning — it measurably lowers cortisol within a single session.
  • Intercourse every 1–2 days through your fertile window, not just on the “target day” — every-other-day removes the pressure of hitting one exact moment and keeps you both sane.

Begin the meditation practice that will carry you through pregnancy, too. MyDvija’s 100 Days Garbhasanskar Programme includes guided pregnancy meditation and Garbhasanskar womb-connection sessions covering breathwork and visualisation. Starting this in month 3 means that once conception happens, you’ll enter pregnancy with the practice already established, instead of starting from scratch in a first-trimester fog.

By the end of month 3, you’ll have had a full 3 months of folic acid and shatavari at full effectiveness. You’ll know your fertile window and be acting on it correctly. Your nutrition will have moved from a position of depletion to readiness, and your meditation practice will be in place — a calmer nervous system, and a better hormonal environment for it. Your husband’s sperm quality will have had 60 days to improve.

You’re as ready as it’s possible to be.

The 90-Day Quick Reference: –

  • Month 1: Folic acid · Shatavari · Blood tests · Replace sugar with jaggery · Chai 60 min after meals.
  • Month 2: OPK tracking · Moringa powder · Ragi porridge · Husband starts zinc + lifestyle changes.
  • Month 3: Daily pranayama · Guided meditation · Intercourse every 1–2 days through your fertile window.

Every day, all 3 months: Dvija Dates Syrup in warm milk · Flax Seeds Powder in dahi · Dvija Cow Ghee at every main meal · protein at every meal · lemon with every dal.

When You Get a Positive Test: –

Everything you’ve built carries forward. Keep the shatavari, the moringa, and the ragi going through the first trimester, since none of it stops being useful once you conceive. The meditation simply moves into the full pregnancy journey alongside it.

And once you’re ready for structured pregnancy support — live sessions, prenatal fitness, Garbhasanskar, and couple bonding — the same 100 Days Garbhasanskar Programme picks up exactly where this 90-day plan leaves off.

If you have PCOS, irregular cycles, or blood results that showed something concerning, don’t try to interpret them alone. A 30-minute consultation with Shrreya Shah turns your specific health picture into a personalised plan — not generic advice, yours.

You’ll also find free guidance in Hindi on preconception, fertility, and Garbhasanskar on the MyDvija YouTube channel.

Also Worth Reading: –

Ninety days. Three periods. Three rounds of OPK strips. Three months of ragi porridge and shatavari in warm milk before bed.

That’s also the difference between entering conception depleted and entering it ready.

Your baby deserves the second version. So do you. Start today.
